Your brain, with all its wonderful facets and zillions of neurological connections, really needs to be taken care of.
When my brain hurts and what I really mean is, when it’s tired, exhausted and/or drained – I just know it needs a rest from all the crazy noise and distractions out there.
Your brain is on the go all of the time, doing things like – keeping you safe, helping you learn and supporting your creative imagination.
It’s constantly picking up inner and outer signals to help you function most effectively on a moment to moment basis – no wonder it hurts sometimes.
So next time your amazing brain has moved into overload drive, give it some downtime and fresh space to clear out the clutter and make way for true clarity of thought.
Your brain is a wondrous miracle that enables you to bring out the best of you and helps you to demonstrate your inner magic.
So don’t go popping a paracetemol and hope that all the unwanted head pressure will all go away. Take your brain into an information free zone and let it mingle with absolutely nothing.
Disconnect your brain and give it time to reboot – you’ll most definitely feel like a different person.

Be a loyal and trustworthy person and you will have the best friends for life.
Be open and honest with your feelings, it will help people to see the true side of you.
Be helpful and caring towards others and seek first to understand before being understood.
Be a positive and upbeat kind of person – no one wants to be around a drainer – sorry, they just don’t!
Be kind and friendly as much as you can because these qualities are always remembered in you by others.
Really focus on developing yourself as much as possible and read books on other people who have already succeeded in life.
Never judge another – you have not walked in that person’s shoes and you don’t know the difficult experiences other people have had to deal with. No one lives a perfect life, believe that!
Take time to plan what you want out of life in the next 2, 5 and 10 years from now and then go to work EVERYDAY on your plan.
Look after your health and wellbeing and that includes your mental, physical and spiritual.
Keep your finances in check and do your best to never lose money but instead work out how to grow your money and how to make it work for you.

I was a Professional Executive Coach for many years and really did do very well in it. I met the most AMAZING leaders, whom I learned so much from. I found similar qualities in the leaders who made the BEST progress and I share below some of these:-
An incredibly ambitious growth mindset;
Deep listeners with a real eagerness to become more self-aware;
A true drive and enthusiasm for positive self-change;
Powerful and fast acting on the implementation of new ideas and learning;
A desire to become a better leader and to empower others to see their own leadership capabilities;
An unbelieveable ability to turn things around where needed;
Internally honest and seekers of truth to help them get out of their own way;
An energetic passion for meaningful results within themselves and others;
A first class ability to know what needs done and the onboard accountability for doing it;
Aspirational in their thinking and inspirational in their doing;
BIG THINKERS with a purposeful VISION;
And, let me tell you, this impressive list of leadership qualities goes on and on!
I am proud to say, I worked with the GREATEST in their field and I will never forget how ELATED and ENERGISED we both would feel after a truly progressive coaching session.
If you are in a leadership position and are currently struggling with your current set up or difficult strategic decisions – seek out a recommended professional executive coach or business mentor, who will ignite your inner drive, deeply question your current position and open up your own strategic thinking to achieve the necessary results.
There are an abundance of leadership coaching tools out there, that a highly skilled coach or mentor can share with you, in order to help you progress FAST!
Leaders have a lot of heavy plates spinning, whilst under a tremendous amount of work and personal stress – maybe it’s time to seek out the expertise you need.
Don’t stay stuck and never stay stagnant!
Be THEE Leader!

I can honestly say, I haven’t had the Monday Morning Blues for a good few years now and I never want to have them in the future either.
I remember, in my much younger days, getting these feelings, which often started on the Sunday evening!
I know, most of you can relate to those feelings of ‘dread’ going into a job that, for your own reasons, didn’t feel right.
I made a promise to myself a few years back that if I ever got so low again going into a job, I would sort that stuff out super fast.
Thankfully, I know what I want from a job and how I can utilise my skills and experience to contribute effectively. I also know how I want to be led and empowered to bring my best game to the table on a daily basis.
You have the true capacity and pure potential to achieve everything you want from your work and you are in control of whether you make it or break it.
I believe you deserve to experience the best of opportunities out there, so make sure you bring your ‘A’ game every single time.
There is this great quote by Rumi, “what you seek, is seeking you”, and for me, this quote is a wonderful reminder to never doubt your capabilities and be mindful of the many doors that are open for you – just walk right in.
She held a beautiful azure blue flower in her hand.
She took my hand and placed the flower in it.
Without any words, she gave me this message…..
Your magical heart can make the invisible visible. I am here because you shine. The blue of this flower represents the ocean and the sky. The petals represent the fragility of life. The wonder is not in the flower. The miracle is in you.
The old lady then disappeared.
The flower turned into tiny little seeds in the palm of my hand.
I then knew, it was time to self-nurture and grow.
I honestly did think about NOT sharing this article with you but then I thought, “it’s my online magazine and I want to be true and authentic to myself”, so that is why I am sharing it.
I would say that I am more of spiritual person these days than deeply religious but I do love to pray everyday. I know prayer isn’t for everyone but I really do believe in the power of prayer. I have the deepest faith and belief that all my prayers are answered, I really do believe that and I have strong evidence of that since I was a child.
God Mother
My God Mother, Bella, who passed away many years ago, always had the deepest faith in the power of prayer and I guess she passed that on to me, it is only now when I am reflecting on it, I…
What’s your story? Where is your heart’s passion taking you? Today, in this moment, tomorrow is unknown, with no guarantees of what will be, until it happens. You have right now, you have this moment, yes, pinch yourself, this one, right now, this moment…..to do something that is going to enhance the story of your life. This next poem is all about that., I hope you like it. Much love to you today, Clarabelle
The Story of Life
The story of life, its twists and turns, a loving a heart, a flame that burns. Head in the clouds, Dreams at my door. Living life curiously, wonders to explore. To never give up, To never give in. A stubborn mind, Or an attitude to win. For all you have, Is here and now. It’s in this moment, Take a bow. For what you seek, Is seeking you. Words of wisdom, do come true. So believe in your soul, Have faith in the dark. Your story of life. Is making its mark.
I received one of the biggest compliments ever recently from my friend. We were getting the bus down to Manchester City Centre to celebrate the New Year and she told me she really liked one of my original songs, “In Time We Heal”, then, to my wonderful surprise, she started singing it and she knew the words….wow I was so chuffed. She said to me that she really liked the song and played and sang along to it many many times. Well, I was blown away with delight, that was such an unexpected thing to hear because I had no idea she listened to my stuff. Her telling me that really made my day, as a matter of fact it made my whole trip.
Recording Studio
I am really excited because I head to the professional recording studio for the first time on 8th January to record 7 of my original songs for an EP (Extended Play), so soon you will hear them on this blog. Below is a sample Youtube video of me practising my original song. “In Time We Heal” and also I have attached the Soundcloud link to Gary Stitt singing it – Gary arranged the piano backing track for this song and I think he did an amazing job.
The song “In Time We Heal” is about going through tough times in life but overcoming them in the end and I am sure we can all relate to this. All my songs are based on my own experiences or experiences of people very close to me, I think that is why people are connecting with them so much.
Listen to the words and stay strong my beautiful friend because indeed, “In Time YOU Will Heal”.
It is a real pleasure for me to write this Guest Post for this NYC Fit Food Fashion Blog. I
thought I would share with you a poem about one of my favourite forms of exercise, which
is road running. I started road running in 2007 and since then I have completed the New
York, London and Loch Ness Marathons along with some 10Ks and Half marathons too.
NYC Marathon
The reason I was inspired to do my first marathon was because I worked for a local charity at the time and we were looking for some different ways to raise money and running the NYC marathon seemed to be a good choice for all involved.
Battling the Scottish Weather
It certainly was a challenge for me but I was fully committed to it. I was a keen fan of going to the gym but I must say running on…
I honestly did think about NOT sharing this article with you but then I thought, “it’s my online magazine and I want to be true and authentic to myself”, so that is why I am sharing it.

God Mother
My God Mother, Bella, who passed away many years ago, always had the deepest faith in the power of prayer and I guess she passed that on to me, it is only now when I am reflecting on it, I really believe she did, in such a positive way.
I remember when I was a child my Aunt Bella gave me this prayer to read at night, it was a prayer to give me the strength and confidence to do well in my education and studies, I remember I said that prayer every night for years and years, never a night went by without me saying that prayer – I know that prayer helped me do really well at School and University.
New Prayer
I created a new prayer this evening, I was doing my housework earlier and listening to some inspirational videos on YouTube and I just thought to myself, “I want to create a meaningful and heartfelt prayer to say everyday”. This prayer is quite personal to me and I know this prayer will definitely be answered, maybe you will want to say it too, or indeed make up your own special personal prayer.
Prayer In My Heart
So I share this prayer with you today, I feel this prayer in my heart, I feel it. I hope you connect with it in some way and if you are supportive of the power of prayer then please feel free to use it and share it with others.
PS. I love you Aunt Bella and I miss your laugh and happy spirit and I know my Mum does too.
Best Ever Self Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for listening to me and thank you for answering this prayer.
I have deep faith in the positive changes that are currently happening to me.
I have true belief in the power of this prayer and the knowing that I am achieving everything that my heart desires.
Thank you for helping me to stay strong, patient, confident, creative, powerful, happy and forever abundant.
Thank you for my heart’s beauty, perfect health, amazing wealth and for giving me the happiest spirit and soul.
I feel very blessed and so grateful for all that I am and for all that I am becoming.
I say this prayer to you today, to offer you my deepest gratitude for helping me to truly help myself turn my life around for the better and for me becoming my Best Ever Self.
Thank you Dear God for answering my prayer today and always.
You deserve the best in life, you deserve to have everything you have ever wanted and I definitely believe that is so possible. This next poem below was created by me after I completed my Vision Wall, way back in 2012. If you want to know more about how to create your very own Vision Wall to empower you to make positive changes in your life, then please click on this link: https://clarabelle.org/personal-development/vision-wall/
The New Me
I can honestly the words in this poem “The New Me” definitely ring true for me and I am happy to say that I feel that I am “The New Me” – not a different person but just more of who I really am…..I suppose you could say I have come home. I do hope you enjoy it and thinking ahead to the New Year, creating your very own Vision Wall might just give you the push that you need to turn your dreams into reality.
At the beginning of every month I pose a question for you to think about and answer for yourself. I also provide you with my own answer to this question. Below is this month’s question.
Usually I offer you up a question that relates to moving forward with your life for e.g. making a change or a question that will help you to become more self aware. This month’s question is a little bit more simple (well, for me) 🙂 .
Question:
What is your most favourite piece of music or song, right now, in this moment and why?
My Answer:
I really do love lots of songs and music compilations, I have a deep respect and appreciation for music and I really do admire the musical talents of Artists.
The one song that I have been listening to recently and really does inspireme, is a song called “Try” by the Band “The Modern Hearts”. I really LOVE this song, because I can relate to the words, which uplift me, inspire me andawaken my soul inside….to me, this song is quite simply magical and captivating. When I play this song, I want to dance, I just start jumping and moving around on the living room floor like a 2 year old on Christmas Eve excitedly waiting for Santa to arrive. What an amazing impact a song can have on you.
Here is a SoundCloud link to the wonderfully inspiring song “Try” by the Band “The Modern Hearts”, right now, this song is number one in my heart and soul: https://soundcloud.com/modernheart/try
I would really love to know what is your favourite song and why and also what positive impact it has on you too?
Every day between now and Christmas I am going to share a Christmas Poem with you. The one below speaks from my heart this Christmas time.
Loved Ones
Christmas is a beautiful time to spend with your family and close friends and this is often a time when you also think about your loved ones who can’t be with you right now and I know you can relate to that, just like me.
This next Christmas poem is all about that and this one is dedicated to my Wonderful Dad in heaven, “I Miss You Forever”.
I Miss You Forever
I miss you forever, forever and a day. But it seems to get harder, when Christmas comes our way.
I think of your smile, I think of your love. When Christmas is with us, And you are above.
Kindness is in the air, All I want to give to you. Is the biggest ever hug, This is what I’d do.
If only Santa Claus, Could make my dreams come true. We’d be putting up the tree, Instead, I’m feeling blue.
But Christmas is upon us, and you are in my heart. Shining like a beacon, Flowing through every part.
I miss you forever, and on this Christmas Day. I love you more than you’ll ever know. And in my heart for you I pray.
Every day between now and Christmas Day I am going to make up a poem for you and share it here on this Clarabelle Blog. If you would like to inspire one of the Christmas poems or better still, if you want create a special Christmas poem for this blog, then please just let me know on the comments section below. Poems can be about anything related to Christmas, for example, you might want one of the Christmas poems to be about a Snowman or Father Christmas or Christmas Candles or Christmas Love….whatever you want, please just let me know. I can’t promise that I will be able to include everyone’s Christmas poems or ideas but I will do my very best to capture what I can. Here is the first one for you:
Christmas Bells
The sound of love, The sound of joy. Giggles and smiles, From every girl and boy.
The sound of hope, The sound of fun. Christmas bells ring, Uplifting everyone.
Treasure this time, Play in the snow. With Christmas jingles, And Santa on show.
Let the tree, Light up the room. Give warmth this Christmas Let the Christmas flowers bloom.
Most people spend more time planning their yearly holiday/vacation that they do their life.
What do I mean by life planning?
I believe it is about YOU exploring some of the the following things:
Looking at want you specifically want from life.
What experiences you want to have?
What contribution you want to make?
Identifying and understanding your core values.
Living your life in alignment with your core values.
Aligning your goals and desires to these.
Making a plan of action on how you are going to achieve that.
Putting the plan into action i.e do the “doing part”.
Measuring progress along the way.
Celebrating successes.
Reflecting on your learning experiences.
Continuously developing and implementing feedback.
Reviewing and fine tuning your goals along the way.
Setting an appropriate timescale for achieving these goals
Some of you may not know this, but I am a fully qualified Coach (Executive, Life & Career), I have had my own Coaching, Leadership/Management Training and Human Resources Business since 2008. I work with clients in business and privately on the above stuff, I also do tons of work on this myself for my own self development.
If you don’t make a plan or set goals for yourself it can be really easy to “just drift by”, like a cloud in the sky and sometimes helping other people to live out their dreams more than your own. I am all for helping people with their dreams but this should not be at the detriment to your own self.
Take some time today to think about what you REALLY want from life and how to live your life more in alignment with your core values. When you do this you will be moving more towards long term life fulfillment rather than just quick fixes and short bursts of happiness.
Maybe just maybe your were meant to read this post today and maybe just maybe it will inspire you to take that first step towards living the life you truly desire and truly deserve. Don’t be a drifting cloud in the sky, be that SUN shining bright and full of forever happiness.
Do one thing today that makes you happy, I mean something you haven’t done for a while, something that you’ve missed doing, something that you enjoy doing. Today make some time to do that. Often we get so caught up in our busy lives we forget the special ‘me‘ time that we all deserve. Just for today do that one thing that makes you happy – I know you will be glad you did.
Today I am going to go on a day trip to Balmaha Bay, Balloch, Scotland with my mum and during that trip I am going to be “snap happy” as I will be taking some beautiful photos for my new eBook that’s coming out, “It’s All About Gratitude”. I am excited about doing this and it will also be really lovely to spend a day with my mum.
I love Balmaha Bay, for me it is a place of deep beauty and peaceful tranquility and sometimes this is just what the doctor ordered. 🙂
In 2011 I wrote a poem about Balmaha, I have already shared it on this blog before, but here it is again, just in case you missed it first time round:
A frozen Balmaha Lake January 2011
Sweet Balmaha Bay
Balmaha, an inspiring place,
Oh how I love, your beautiful face.
The silent lake, speaks many words,
A magical paradise, beneath the flight of birds.
My soul’s at home, when I visit you,
I feel at one, below the sky so blue.
As I tie a yellow ribbon, around the old oak tree,
I appreciate your world, for all to see.
The air is clean, fresh and new,
The shimmering sunlight, makes a stunning view.
And the many boats, who sail in leisure,
Uplifting spirits, you provide great pleasure.
In hail or rain, sunshine or snow,
Your tranquil beauty, will always show.
For the depths of your heart, are in everyone,
Sweet Balmaha Bay under the horizon sun.
Poem By Clarabelle, 2011
Wherever you go today and whatever you do, I do hope it brings you sweet happiness and fulfillment, much love to you Clarabelle. 🙂
I want you to be the first to know that I am in the middle of writing a book on gratitude, entitled “It’s All About Gratitude”. Core Values
Gratitude is one of my core values, I practice it everyday in my life and I know I benefit so greatly from it. I want this eBook to encourage others to invite daily gratitude into their lives as I know it can be life changing for individuals.
Watch this space my dearest friends “It’s All About Gratitude” by Clarabellewill be released into the Universe soon for you to enjoy, if you wish,.
May your day today be filled with beautiful thoughts of gratitude, much love to you Clarabelle.
I want you to think about this, how do you usually respond to the people and circumstances around you when you are in a low mood? Chances are if you’re anything like me, not very positively. Wouldn’t it be best then to wait until your mood changes to a much more positive mood before you respond to situations. Yes, I know you can’t wait forever because this is life and you will want to be getting on with things, but if you take ‘time’ out of the equation and focus more on changing your thinking about the situation then ‘time’ will not be the main issue……you just have to change your thinking. You see it’s all really about THINK, FEEL, DO – let me explain. Your thinking comes first, which then determines how you feel which is then followed by what you do, so if you don’t like what you’re doing or how you’re feeling change the way you think.
High Mood
I want to encourage you to really think about what you’re thinking before you respond to anything in your life. When you are in a high mood you will be thinking good thoughts and good feelings and behaviour will follow. When you are in a high mood you are much better equipped to tap into your true wisdom and you will find it much easier to come up with the solution to any problems you have.
Hopefully this post will give you some food for thought.
“When you’re in a high mood, life looks good. You have perspective and common sense.” (Richard Carlson)
I encourage you today to think your way out of a low mood and into a high mood, then respond to what needs done, I am sure you will get much better results all round.
A little bit of inspiration goes a long long way. I came across this YouTube video a few weeks back, you may already have seen it but I feel I just had to share it on here, it is very empowering indeed. Arthur in the video is such a true inspiration to each and everyone of us, may his story inspire you to take on what others see as the “impossible”.
Much love to you in this very moment, we all need a little bit of love to come our way, Clarabelle.
Over the last year or so I have had an increasing desire to buy items that are the colour red, below is a list of some ‘red’ items I have purchased recently:
Red Sofa
Red Diary
Red Bikini
Red Coat
Red Lamp
Red Kitchen Tiles
Red Bathroom Mat
Red Bed Covers
Red Lipstick
Red Pen
Red Mini iPad Cover
Red Microwave
And the list goes on and on……………
Before that I had the desire to purchase items azure bluefor e.g.
Azure blue Car
Azure blue Running Trainers
Azure blue Running Top
Azure blue ‘Clarabelle’ Butterfly Logo
And the list goes on…….
I originally didn’t really think that any of the above had any real significance to anything but after I had a meaningful conversation with someone about it, I now realise there is a very strong connection to the colours I am attracting into my life and what this actually means.
Chakras
A couple of weeks ago I was Chairing a Board meeting and before the meeting started I shared my desire for buying red with one of the newest Board members, John, who is a Reiki Master/Teacher (www.scottishreiki.co.uk). I said to John, “I just can’t stop buy red”, as I stood there proudly wearing my redtrench coat.
John explained to me how my buying of red relates to the different colours of the Chakras and he continued to explain to me what each colour meant. John expressed that my desire for red is a good thing and to continue to do what I am doing in terms of my own personal growth. The Red Chakra relates to these positive traits:
Energetic
Courageous
Pioneering Spirit
Leadership Qualities
Strong Willed
Determined
Spontaneous
Confident
“Redrelates to self awareness. It is the area of survival and stability and your place on this earth. The colour red provides the power from the earth and gives energy on all levels. It connects us to our physical body. Everything that is to be commenced needs the life vitality of red.” Extract from www.threeheartscompany.com
I then looked up the meaning of Bluein relation to the Chakras. Blue is in relation to the Throat, the ability to verbalise and expressing truth through the power of the spoken word. “Blue is the colour of the spirit andrelates to self expression – speech, communication, the ability to communicate our needs and requirements; Spirit of truth and purpose. This is a mentally-relaxing colour. Connects us to holistic thought, and gives us wisdom and clarity enhancing communication and speech.” Extract from www.threeheartscompany.com
I totally found this a fascinating connection with me starting up of this blog, expressing myself through lots and lots of poetry and songwriting. I remember I had such strong desire for buying items of the colour blue at that time.
The significance here is that Aviral Kulshreshtha introduced my blog with a very interesting take on what he called my ‘red‘ photo. Here is an extract from that very blog post and Aviral’s introduction:
“Being a Science student, I always learned, ‘Red color has the highest wavelength’.’ The highest wavelength has the highest energy. This energy reflects from red colored pic, who inspired me at every bit of seconds and I truly feel lucky to have her on my ship of Life: Clarabelle. Clarabelle means Bright. As I said, red color is the brightest color which reflects from her poetic heart and beautiful mind.”
Clarabelle, Red Colour Photo 23.03.13
Wow, I just feel the significance of the above expressions from both John and Aviral relate so much to me attracting the colour red into my life (and blue the year before that) – I believe this is in relation to the frequency of the vibration I am on. High energy attracts high energy, thus my desire for the colour red.
I could be completely wrong here and it would be interesting to hear other thoughts on this, I am always open to new learnings.
What colour are you attracting into your life right now? What colour do you have a current desire for?
At the moment mine is vibrant ‘red‘ and I’m indeed “REaDy for Action”!!
Wishing you a colourful day today, full of many beautiful rainbow moments.
You may not wish to answer straight away, you may wish to contemplate the question for a few minutes/hours/days or even a couple of weeks. You don’t even need to post the answer on here, but it would be nice if you would and share your answers with others. So here is your question:
What are you tolerating?
Here is my answer:
These days I don’t tolerate most things that don’t serve me well and I made that change for myself a while back after I came across this statement “You get what you tolerate”. Wow, that was a transformational statement to me because it really made me think of what I was tolerating at that time in my life and didn’t wish to continue to tolerate. This changed my thinking at that time and inspired positive change within me.
So these days, if I’m purely honest, I don’t put up with anything that I don’t want and that is because I have greater self-respect and self-love for myself, I have raised my personal standards and everyday I work towards living my life in alignment with my values. My focus is on what I want out of life not what I don’t want and then I do what I can to achieve what I desire. Sometimes this isn’t easy and I have to push past internal barriers but as long as I have moved one baby step closer to my goal, then I know I am progressing and I will definitely arrive.
You get what you tolerate and if you don’t like it, change it!!
It was the London Marathon on Sunday, 21 April 2013, and I just want to say a massive congratulations to everyone who took part in the run and also to the most amazing support from the thousands of people who stand for hours along the side of the road to cheer on the runners. I have run a couple of marathons before so I really do know what it is like to feel the wonderful support and encouragement from the crowd, it really does motivate you as a runner and really puts a smile on your face. I did the London marathon in 2010 with my good friend Gina and we raised a good amount of money for a charity which is very close to Gina’s heart, Alzheimer Scotland. I don’t often share a lot of videos on this blog but I thought it might be nice to share the video I personally made in 2010 of our London Marathon experience, it is quite good fun to watch, you will see from the video how excited I am – so please be prepared. I feel there is at least one more marathon in me and as I write this I am seriously contemplating doing another one this year – which one, I don’t know you, but I will let you know when I have decided.
So please enjoy the wee video, I hope it makes you smile and maybe even inspires you to take on the challenge of running a marathon.
As of yesterday (02.4.13), I am now a fully Certified Mental Health First Aider, so what does that mean?
Mental Health First Aid, like any other type of first aid, is the help given to a person before appropriate professional help or treatment can be obtained. First aid of any type has the following aims:
1. To preserve life
2. To prevent deterioration of any injury or illness
3. To promote healing
4. To provide comfort to the person who is ill, injured or distressed.
Mental Health First Aid is the help given to someone experiencing a mental health problem before other help can be accessed. A MHFA is not a therapist, however, people are trained in:
How to ask about suicide.
How to recognise the signs of mental health problems or distress.
How to provide initial help.
How to guide a person towards appropriate professional help.
First Aid for Mental Health problems such as:
Alcohol and Mental Health;
Cannabis and Mental Health;
Stimulants and Mental Health;
First Aid for Suicide – using the ALGEE method of approach;
First Aid for Self-harm;
First Aid for Depression;
Alcohol and Depression;
Illegal or Recreational Drugs and Depression;
First Aid for Anxiety;
First Aid for Psychosis;
Schizophrenia;
Bipolar Disorder (manic depression). (The above is an extract from Scotland’s Mental Health First Aider Manual)
Davina’s Poem
One of the reasons I am sharing this with you today, is that at the start of the training we were given a poem to read written by someone who used poetry as a method of communication whilst going through some challenging self harming mental health issues. I want to share that poem with you today, it is given with kind permission from Davina Smith and it has been included in the Scotland’s Mental Health First Aider Training Manual. Here is Davina’s poem:
Who Me?
You smoke each day
Puff your life away
You clearly know it’ll kill you
You drink with the moon
Drown your liver and soon
There’s a chance it just may kill you
You drive too fast
And what if you crash?
You know it might just kill you
You smoke your dope
Take drug, others hope
This time that they won’t kill you
You over-eat
Can’t see your feet
One day it’ll certainly kill you
You look down on me
And all you can see
Are my cuts and scratches and scars
I’m having my life
While you’re taking your life
Now tell me, who’s the self-harmer?
by Davina Smith (with kind permission)
This led onto further stories being shared by participants of the training of how young adults experiencing mental health issues used poetry to communicate their feelings with their key workers – I found this fascinating.
There is indeed a special power in poetry, I have always believed that, creative self-expression can be the breakthrough that we need to move on in life, I know I have certainly experienced that for myself.
This was a very tough training course for me, maybe because I connected so much with it. I learned a lot and share some of this learning with you today.
May you continue to express your heart through your creative soul, because I believe that there are real people out there, who truly value and connect with your words, you just might be ultimately and positively changing a life too.
How do you know when you are happy, I mean really really happy? This next poem is inspired by some thoughts around that question. I do hope you are feeling happy today, even if you just get in touch with your own inner happiness for a moment, right now, it will give you an instant boost. Much love and smiles to you today. Clarabelle
I had the most amazing childhood, it was full of fun, adventure and magical spirit. I was surrounded by an abundance of friends, love and laughter….I hold these special memories very close to my heart, they are locked in my soul forever…..we will never be apart!! This next poem is inspired by my childhood dreams and those treasured times of the past that have shaped who I am today. If I ever feel I have travelled afar from who I really am, I think of those rainbow days and those long summer sunsets, where I danced in the wind, laughed in the rain and played with love in my heart, every moment of every day. I wish you a day filled with a childlike free spirit that makes you feel so very happy inside. I am smiling now, I do hope you are. Love, Clarabelle
Rainbow Days
Rainbow Days
Sweet sweet child in me, playful and full of fun;
Dancing in the rain, laughing under the sun.
Happy was my heart, true friends were all around;
My soul skipped to the music, love in me profound.
Fresh air on my face, the clouds so magical too;
Hopping in an out of puddles, this is what I do.
I wake up with a song, playing in my heart;
Singing to this tune, I repeat this special part.
Smiles, hugs and warmth, fill my rainbow days;
Light shines from within me, reflecting spectrum rays.
All of my poetry is based on my life experiences, some amazing ones and some really challenging ones. This next poem was written by me from a challenging time in my life. I didn’t realise it at the time, but I know now, that the pain I was feeling, was the releasing of negative energy that was not serving me well. I call this poem, my breakthrough poem, the reason being is that I opened up my heart and asked for help whilst feeling in such a vulnerable state of mind. I remember this experience so very clearly, it was 3am and I couldn’t sleep, I felt really tearful…..I asked for help and I truly believe I got it – from myself. This poem is a true reflection of that night, I believe some kind of inner miracle happened and I know the power of the universe was listening to me. I share this very personal poem with you, in the hope that if you are facing a similar tough experience, it will give you faith and knowing that your current difficult experience will gradually pass with time and maybe just maybe the first step to that happening is accepting the situation for what it is and asking for help. I believe that help will come from within, for you can truly help yourself and turn any negative situation around. May you take courage and strength from these words, “The next message you need is always right where you are.” (Ram Das) and I feel my true life experience told in this next poem proves that. Stay strong, you can do it!! Much love to you today, Clarabelle.
Breakthrough
Breakthrough
It was 3am, I just couldn’t sleep;
With tears in my eyes, the message came deep.
I was all alone and I repeated out loud;
“Help me, Help me”, I’m lost in the crowd.
Give me a sign, that you hear my cry;
I don’t know what to do, or what to try.
A few hours passed by, but nothing came my way;
I felt abandoned, and full of dismay.
When morning did come, I searched all around;
Give me a signal, then a book beside my bed I found.
I had been clearing out cupboards, the night before;
And this book fell out, and onto the floor.
Little did I know, for in my time of need;
The answer was there in advance, disguised in this good deed.
I picked up the book, and to my surprise;
The answer was there, in front of my eyes.
“Help is here if you need it” – words marked in bold;
Someone was listening, this answer they told.
I smiled inside, for I knew what to do;
The fact that I asked for help, was the start of mybreakthrough.
That day I found comfort, for the universe heard my plea;
Life throws us many challenges and sometimes just when you think you’ve got a little closer to the mountain top, darkness falls and fears and frustrations kick in. No one said life was ever going to be easy, but we must remember there are many things in life to be grateful for right now. Having an attitude of gratitude will become your inner torch, and will fill up your soul with an abundance of love and light. This next poem was written by me, during a challenging time in my life and my self expression through my poetry, at times, was my saving grace. I now share this with you in the hope that it will help you in some way to move forward regardless of the barriers that are in your way. Much love to you today and always, Clarabelle.
keep a strong mind
Keep a Strong Mind
Too many things, so much to do;
One day feeling bright, the other feeling blue.
At this age now, I look life in the eyes;
Where am I going? Where’s the surprise?
It’s gone a bit stale, I feel the dust;
I need to take action, this is a must.
The mountain is high, and the weather is bleak;
I must keep a strong mind, even though I feel weak.
Trudge, trudge, every step up the hill;
Moves me closer, this dream I will fulfill.
To escape in my imagination, makes me feel free;
It uplifts my spirits, like the wind’s carrying me.
For I come alive, when I write through my soul;
It opens the straight jacket, and fills up the black hole.
There are no boundaries, no pain my way;
The creativity is flowing, I’m listening to what I say.
It feels like magic, the words they come fast;
Meaningful moments, inspiration that lasts.
This feels easy, as I explore deep inside;
The experiences I hold, come in like the tide.
This I must do, it’s where I feel best;
Forget the distractions and let my mind just rest.
We’ve all had days when we feel a little bit ‘stuck’ and I include myself here, after all we are only human. It is possible for you to go from stuck to unstuck within moments and I believe the process for this is different for every person. When I created the poem below I was feeling in a ‘stuck’ place, but by the time I had finished the poem, I had moved to unstuck…the answer came from within and when I was in ‘creative flow’. What will you do today to help you move from a feeling of being ‘stuck’ to ‘unstuck’? There is a way, there is always a way, silence your mind, open your heart and let the answers flow. Much love to you, Clarabelle.
Moving from Stuck to Unstuck
Today I Was Stuck
It’s nearly midnight, and I’m lying in bed;
I think of my inaction, before I rest my head.
Today I was stuck, I didn’t play the game;
Life got the better of me, unleash this chain.
Many brick walls, are in my way;
Built up by me, getting higher each day.
I kick and I punch, the battle is in me;
I’m fighting myself, this I can see.
So what do I do, to turn this around?
Inside is the answer, this I have always found.
Let go of the fight, it’s not a war anymore;
Staring at these four walls, will not open the door.
Step outside, breathe in the air;
Replenish your spirit, feel the wind in your hair.
Dust yourself down, and put a smile on your face;
Slowly walk down the path, and gradually pick up the pace.
To master the mind, it not about control;
Release that desire, and you’ll discover your soul.
My mum told me when I was a little girl, I loved to play out in the rain, it always felt very refreshing and free to me. I would be jumping in and out of puddles and catching raindrops on my tongue, it made me feel so happy. Nowadays, with my adult head on, I simply just go for a walk in the rain but I still love it. I suppose living in Scotland is the perfect place for me, because we always get lots and lots of rain, so I am spoiled really. I went for a walk in the rain the other day, which inspired the next poem. May the next raindrops that fall on you, cleanse your soul and uplift you to higher spirits. Lots of love Clarabelle.
A Walk in the Rain
A walk in the rain, refreshes your soul,
Ignites your dreams, explores your goal.
When the heart feels heavy, and all seems lost,
The answers are awakened, where once worry was the cost.
Think of freedom, as your mind escapes,
Into the space, to form cloudy shapes.
The view is still, silent whispers you will hear,
Every deep breath you take, banishes the fear.
All is beautiful, your vision is sweet,
Be at one with yourself, hear the music in your heartbeat.

Yesterday I had this inner calling to go close to the water, so I did. When I got there, I instantly felt at peace, surrounded by nature which was indeed nurturing my soul. I then got my notepad out and I wrote the following poem. Today, listen to your calling, inner silence is when it’s at its loudest. Clarabelle
The Water’s Edge
The water’s edge, sets my soul free,
Nature’s hands, are holding me.
Open space, silence in the lake,
This is real here, nothing seems fake.
A treasure island, where tranquility prevails,
A rower in the distance, sets his own sails.
***
The rain may be falling, but it is a beautiful sight,
Soft cloudy skies, birds beneath, in full flight.
The ripples on the water, come out to where I stand,
I take a deep breath in, and reach out my hand.
I feel no coldness, for love shares this place,
Its beauty is inside me, and puts a smile upon my face.

I was inspired to write the following poem because sometimes in life, we just need to take a break and recharge the batteries. At times we can push the boundaries to the edge of the mountain because we are so passionate and on purpose, however, be careful not to overstep the mark. We have to look after ourselves so we can give our best and achieve ultimate peace of mind. Be aware of the signals that are coming through, the mind, body and spirit will let you know if it is out of balance – see this signal as part of the solution to make positive changes that will uplift your being and enhance your soul. The power is in your hands.
Take good care of the person that’s you
You’ll then shine like a star, in whatever you do
Rest when you need it, just take a break
Recharge the batteries, before you awake
Life can be exciting, but over-stretching too
Your passion will not fade, it lives in you
Create the space, the mind deserves
Relax the body, to build up reserves
Take a deep breath, detox the soul
Your frequency will change and your heart will stay whole

I live near a beautiful park and sometimes take it upon myself to just go for a walk and enjoy the beauty of the outside world. It provides me with such a wonderful inner calmness, where I just enjoy being with me and my emotions. I often allow myself to get swept away in a dreamy new world of vivid imagination and heartfelt moments. I encourage you to go for a walk and embrace all of this and more. Have a beautiful day, this next poem is for you.
Breathe in Life
To take a tranquil walk, in the park
Creates peace inside, for this journey I embark
To smell the flowers, of summer in bloom
Is a wonderous feeling, I’ll be there soon
As mother nature, raises her hat
It awakens my senses, as I think of that
Step by step, I’m lost in transition
Visions of hope and abundant ambition
Free your soul, to the wind and air
Breathe in life, put yourself first and care

This next poem is for you.
‘Me’ Time in the Moment
Just ten minutes away, to think and ponder
Will capture your soul, in a quiet wonder
This special time, is only for you
‘Me’ time in the moment, I hope you do
Create some space, to re-energise the mind
To master this art, is to discover and find
A beautiful you, admired from within
Peace perfect peace, ‘me’ time is a win

I live in Scotland and for the past week or so we have been getting alot of very beautiful sunshine, which is truly wonderful. I feel there are many benefits of catching a few rays and I wrote this next poem whilst having a few quiet moments basking in the sunshine in my back garden. Go on….capture a moment with the sun today. Lots of love Clarabelle
The Quiet Sunlight
I soak up its energy, feel the heat on my face
A guiding light, the sun source at my place
Its impact is powerful, the strongest light
Brighter that the stars and the cool moonlight
It’s feeding my body, sharing its wealth
Good for my wellbeing and ultimate health
The quiet sunlight, drenches me with life
Takes away all worries, of trouble and strife
It creates a sentiment, of serenity so pure
I’m filling up with its richness, I no longer feel poor
To capture a moment, of time with the sun
Is special and heartfelt, makes me feel number one

When I wrote this poem I was thinking about my early morning, 6am runs. I started running just over 4 years ago and since then I have completed both the New York and London Marathons, raising lots of money for local charities. This poem describes my inner thoughts, whilst running one morning – as I looked up to the morning moon I also searched for the first glimpse of the morning sun. This poem is all about appreciating the things in life that money cannot buy, such as admiring the beautiful early morning sky and the pleasures it brought to my spirit by being embraced in the moment and feeling at one with myself. I hope you find solace in the poetic verse that follows.
The Morning Moon
The morning moon, is so rare to see
It shines a light, of path for me
The moon’s in my mind, I’m thinking alot
My shadow is beside me, deep in thought
This moment is special, I feel at one
The universe is signalling, as each step I run
I search for the sun, when will you smile?
The sky looks so lonely, don’t take a while
Small pleasures of life, that glisten like stars
I’m lost in this beauty, no people or cars
Just oneness and me, as I gaze up to the sky
Just being myself, without asking why
The trip is over, for me and the moon
Embraced in this vision, I’ll see you soon
