Stand by YOU

be magnetically attracted to self-success

Turbulent times in life can eat away at your self-esteem but they can also make you super resilient and unbelieveably strong.

I choose tough times to ‘MAKE ME’ rather than, ‘break me’ and I guess, that’s just how I internally respond.

I think it’s the challenge seeker in me and possibly watching too many Rocky films when I was a child! Regardless of any punches that keep coming, I know I will always bounce back – every single time.

So what is it within me that gives me this fighting back spirit? I don’t really know but I do have this absolute determination and robust self-belief that if someone else can succeed at something, then I can too. I never ever look at anyone in ‘awe’ or wish I was them – I have always loved being me. I was never a fan of anyone or anything – I was happiest just being me.

Don’t get me wrong, there were lots of times growing up when I would hold back, be overly self-conscious and under confident BUT I promise you, I never wanted to be anyone else. I have felt fear, rejection, unloved and lost – especially as a young adult but as I put myself out into the world I started to become more ambitious and be magnetically attracted to self-success.

Instead of happily being led, I found myself naturally becoming the LEADER and feeling very comfortable in this role. As I found my own inner greatness, I would encourage and support others to fulfill their own potential too. Even to this day, I constantly see and seek out the BEST in everyone and that thinking gives me the most beautiful joy.

Many people have called me naive, too much of a ‘yes’ person, a people pleaser and a wearer of ‘rose tinted’ glasses. Personally, that doesn’t bother me too much and I don’t think that of me at all. I know my BEST growth has come from being true to me.

Have I gone off track? Yes, lots of times, and the only way I have managed to pull things back on track, is by realigning to my core values – it works every time!

I encourage you to STAND BY YOU and hold your position as strongly as you can, in the field that you want to grow in. Nurture your mind and body with good habits that will serve you well in the now and in the future.

Focus on developing your SELF-LEADERSHIP and CHAMPION every effort you make in order to change your life for the better.

After all. . . . .

It’s Your Life – GO GET IT!

One Word

There is so much POWER in our words

What one word best describes you?

Is there actually one word that would encapsulate everything that you’re all about?

Look for your ‘one’ word – can you think of it?

Even under copious amounts of caffiene, I could not think of that ‘one’ word for myself. I don’t actually think that word exists – so maybe I have to create it!

You see, when I challenged you to think of that ‘one’ word, it immediately put limits on your thinking but our thinking needs to be limitless in order to engage and change worlds.

So let’s get a little creative here. I think my newly created ‘one’ word needs to be blended into something so magnificent, you’re never going to forget it.

A bit like the stupendous word “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from the famous Disney Movie, Mary Poppins.

There is so much POWER in our words and they can be used for the greatest good or to disempower, so please be very mindful of the words you say to yourself and to others.

I’ve got to say, one of my favourite words is “aspirational” – for some reason, that word seems to “breathe life into me”.

Another word I seem to love is “exponential”. I was first introduced to this word by Broadcaster & Global Keynote Speaker, Rene Carayol at the “The Time is Now” Leadership Conference, held in Glasgow City Centre in 2009.

“Imaginative” another wonderful word that seems to ignite my spirit.

Okay, I need more time to create ‘THEE’ one word but I think you get the moral of the story:

When you add rules, limits and boundaries to your creative thinking, you are boxing up the best of you.

Remember you are a GIFT, so special, that doesn’t need to be boxed up.

Next time you’re in a team meeting trying to come up with an innovative solution or new concept, allow your thinking to flow freely with no barriers in the way.

Be THEE Leader

BIG THINKERS with a purposeful VISION

I was a Professional Executive Coach for many years and really did do very well in it. I met the most AMAZING leaders, whom I learned so much from. I found similar qualities in the leaders who made the BEST progress and I share below some of these:-

An incredibly ambitious growth mindset;

Deep listeners with a real eagerness to become more self-aware;

A true drive and enthusiasm for positive self-change;

Powerful and fast acting on the implementation
of new ideas and learning;

A desire to become a better leader and to empower others
to see their own leadership capabilities;

An unbelieveable ability to turn things around where needed;

Internally honest and seekers of truth to help them
get out of their own way;

An energetic passion for meaningful results
within themselves and others;

A first class ability to know what needs done and
the onboard accountability for doing it;

Aspirational in their thinking and inspirational in their doing;

BIG THINKERS with a purposeful VISION;

And, let me tell you, this impressive list of leadership qualities goes on and on!

I am proud to say, I worked with the GREATEST in their field and I will never forget how ELATED and ENERGISED we both would feel after a truly progressive coaching session.

If you are in a leadership position and are currently struggling with your current set up or difficult strategic decisions – seek out a recommended professional executive coach or business mentor, who will ignite your inner drive, deeply question your current position and open up your own strategic thinking to achieve the necessary results.

There are an abundance of leadership coaching tools out there, that a highly skilled coach or mentor can share with you, in order to help you progress FAST!

Leaders have a lot of heavy plates spinning, whilst under a tremendous amount of work and personal stress – maybe it’s time to seek out the expertise you need.

Don’t stay stuck and never stay stagnant!

How to Make a Difference?

There is a leader in each and everyone of us.

You make a difference by firstly focussing on changing yourself for the better and then that has a real positive effect on others around you.

I never read a personal development book until I was in my 30s and then I was super hooked on how the teachings in those books had a positive influence on my thinking and then ultimately my doing.

You’ve probably heard the term “Leaders are Readers” and I think, there is a lot of truth in that popular saying.

Do you see yourself as a Leader or someone who likes to sit back and be led?

Personally, I think there is a leader in each and everyone of us and if you feel you’re not leading right now, it’s up to you to make the self-adjustment.

A leader doesn’t benefit from being loud, over confident or bullish in their ways and if you are currently experiencing that – then you’re definitely being wrongly led!

Sometimes, and more often than not, the BEST leaders are calm, focussed, quitely confident, deep listeners, super observant and highly self-aware. Great leaders are fully engaged in each and every person they influence. These type of leaders bring out positive energy in others, empowering untapped potential, leading to significant action. In my opinion, Leaders who truly shine, blend coaching and mentoring skills with experience and wisdom.

A true leader wants to bring out the best leadership qualities in others, then stands back, to see them soar.

Enhancing your attributes in self-leadership is one magnificent way to make a difference.

Please remember – Leadership isn’t only a ‘work’ thing – it’s a LIFE thing!

Guest Post by Steve Davis

Hi, I am Steve. I write an increasingly popular blog to inspire and motivate people like you and me. My goals are to help others to get drive, hunger and some passion whether it is in their professional life or personal life. For many years I have been motivating different teams with different types of people with much success. Increasing attitude, productivity and results for those I have worked with. If you would like to engage with my increasingly popular blog, please visit http://stevendavisuk.com/

I wanted to share with you 3 factors that I find are very important when leading/ working with a team.

Lead your team by example

In order to have a productive team, you must be a productive leader. Role-modelling what the employees are expected to do creates great influence, not only on the team but on the work environment itself. It will also generate enthusiasm and will inspire everybody to work more productive and harder. Sometimes it’s simply because your employees are looking up to you. Small things like being on time or being energetic may affect your employee most. This is a massive part of my game as I am always smiling and full of the well, ‘joys of spring’. However, role modelling is sometimes easily overlooked. Be careful with what you do, how you say things, and what you say to keep your team MOTIVATED.

Give ‘worthwhile’ incentives

Celebrating success within the team is HUGE. Giving your team an extra incentive aside from what they are compensated for monthly can be considered as a ‘high impact’ motivation driver. This type of motivation often applies if the performance of the whole organisation is at par with its strategy and goals, be it weekly, monthly, quarterly, or even yearly. However, keep in mind that it is not only monetary incentives that count. My team often like vouchers, ‘Reach-and-Go’s’ and any form of companywide recognition. When this was introduced to numerous teams across my company it had a positive impact on results, activity and morale! Don’t forget, ask the team what they want and compromise where possible, so your incentives will DRIVE them to win.

Listen carefully

This may seem like the easiest thing to do, but you will be surprised how hard it is to actually take on board. I know many leaders who are somewhat successful but struggle to listen. We can all hear what others are saying but to listen is challenging at best. With all your worries about your business, its targets and operations, how will you have the time to listen about how Henry forgot his lunch and now has to buy food from local amenities? It’s tough, but make a conscious effort to give that time to listen. You might think that your employees’ problems are ‘insignificant’ compared to yours, but you can’t make that call on what is important to a person and what is not. Listening to your teams concerns will be greatly appreciated. They will feel more empowered and happy since they are talking to the leader of the team.

Inspiring and motivating your team is one of the most crucial job descriptions for a leader, you can teach skills, benefits and duties but lack of motivation to the team often results to decreasing productivity and declining results. Please keep in touch http://stevendavisuk.com/

Thank You

Great Minds Think Differently

New York Study Tour 2010
NYC Study Tour 2010

Study Tour

In June 2010 I led a small leadership and personal development study tour to New York City.  It was such an amazing experience and I learned so much. “Great minds think differently” is a quote that was displayed brightly on an a massive advertising sign in the middle of Times Square and I resonated with it at the time.   On the Study Tour, we met up with other leaders and professional coaches whilst over there.  We went from Wall Street to Princeton, New Jersey to Westchester to Hoboken to Staten Island, you name it we were there.  We also got the wonderful opportunity to sail on my friend’s boat on the Hudson River and I was given a complimentary helicopter ride over the very stunning New York City by another friend of mine.  My friend Maritza also got us a private tour around the United Nations building, that was really amazing.

I produced a whole brochure on the experience of leading and participating in the Leadership Study Tour and if you are interested in receiving a complimentary copy, please just email me and I will email it to you claire@murraypeople.com

Energy

The reason I am sharing this with you is because I came across the beginnings of a video I produced from the trip (see below).  I always get so much energy from visiting New York City as it holds a very special place in my heart and this is were I also met my first love in 2007.  We are not together now, for the right reasons I believe but we still remain distant friends.

In relation to the Youtube video, for anyone who is not familiar with the drink “Irn Bru”, it is a well known and very popular soda drink (pop) here in Bonny Scotland.  It is often called Scotland’s Other National Drink!!  I took it over for some of my American friends to try, hence Donna’s comment on the video of it tasting like “liquid candy“.  🙂

New York, New York I’ve been there five times now since 2007 and I know I will visit it again, I have many great connections over there and I am sure will be doing some work over there soon.

What place do you like to visit and why? I’d love to know.

May your day today be filled with beautiful loving energy, lots of love, Clarabelle
