Zero to One

Reading out loud

A while ago, I was given the gift of this bestseller book, Zero to One by Peter Thiel. The unopened book was sitting on my shelf for too long, before I decided recently to dive into its knowledge.

I needed to switch off from my mobile phone, laptop and tablet, so this book was a perfect escape.

I love learning from the best and gaining fresh perspectives on business and self-development.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the book but I just knew I’d find a golden nugget or two to help me with my own business and self-progression.

I wanted to try a different approach to reading the book – which was, reading out loud, a chapter at a time. It might sound silly to do this, but I found this approach to reading quite captivating.

I found myself taking more time to simmer and savour the learning from each page. I’d often read out loud paragraphs twice, like I was reiterating the message.

It’s not a book reading approach I will use all the time, but I just felt like “shaking things up a little bit” and I enjoyed the process immensely.

Obviously, I was at home alone reading out loud, pretending to be a great teacher, helping others learn.

The moral of the story is, “you don’t need to do things as you’ve always done“. Try a new approach; a different and more intriguing way to daily activities.

Keep the brain sharp and the body “on its toes“.

Be creative in your doing and enjoy the journey – we know that’s the most important part.

What book are you currently reading?

  1. Echoes of the Page: Finding New Meaning in Words Read Aloud
In a quiet room, with a book in hand,I chose to read aloud, to let words stand.A chapter, a page, a line once or twice,The sound of each phrase felt fresh, felt nice.
Each word, each thought, became mine to keep,As I voiced them aloud, not buried deep.I paused to savor, to let meaning sink,No rush, just me, the page, and time to think.
I stood as a teacher, just me in the room,Imagined a class, felt the words bloom. This playful way broke the usual mold,Made learning alive, vivid and bold.
So here’s the message, the lesson I’ve found—Shake up your habits, let joy resound. For in trying new ways, we open a door,To find in the ordinary, something more.
